Circa 1890: Hand-Painted Papier Mache Blotting Pad with Mother of Pearl drink trivets carved detailI adore this exquisite handpainted lacquered blotting pad, dating from the late 1800s. The floral detail, slightly timeworn is beautiful and the mother of pearl is in exquisite condition. The paper and the inside jacket is faded and timeworn but adds to the beauty. Blotting pads were originally used to absorb excess ink from writing particularly from quills and fountain pens and this would have been cherished. Dimensions 23cm length x 15cm wide when
