This is an excellent unissued example of the extremely rare experimental U. S. WWII M1 Carbine short hip holster. The short holster was specifically designed for troops that could not be encumbered by carry a rifle over the shoulder with a sling or in their hands. The ingenious short holster allowed the user to have both hands free by allowing the M1936 pistol belt to slide between the scabbard
